How we do at local level in Tikkurila: Currently our activities are only based on voluntaty work.
The board
The activities of the Tikkurila local association are coordinated by the board. The 2025 autumn meeting elected a new board for its two‑year term of office, running from 2026 to 2028. In addition, our family café activities involve dedicated and active volunteers.
The board meets regularly several times a year. During board meetings, we plan activities that support the wellbeing of children, young people, and families in our area. Two statutory meetings are held each year: the spring and autumn meetings. The agenda of these statutory meetings is defined in our association’s rules. In addition to the mandatory items, other current matters may also be discussed.
Our spring and autumn meetings are open to everyone. Members of the association receive invitations in advance and have the right to vote at these meetings. We warmly welcome all members and anyone interested to attend our statutory meetings and enquire about our activities. This helps to enhance the transparency of our work.
Are you interested in joining the board? Previous experience in board work is not required – the most important qualities are enthusiasm, a desire to make an impact, and a willingness to develop local activities. Feel free to get in touch! New board members will next be elected at the autumn meeting in 2026. Until then, we encourage you to join our activities, whether as a guest at our events or as a volunteer helping to organize them.
If you would like to bring an issue to the board's attention, you can send us a message via email at mll.tikkurila@gmail.com. We are happy to receive ideas and suggestions!

Our activities
MLL Tikkurila Association organises events that support the everyday lives of families with children in our area. We have held free-play family cafés for pre-school children, summer picnics, a nature trail game, and a one-off toddler exercise session. A long-standing core activity has been our volunteer-run family cafés, which will continue organising in 2026. You can read more about our upcoming events in the Tapahtumat section.
We are also exploring new possibilities for activities for local families with children. If you enjoy event planning, brainstorming, or simply have great ideas, we would love to hear from you! We are especially looking for a volunteer to help ideate and organise gatherings for families with international backgrounds in the region, a group we have not yet been able to reach yet.
You are equally welcome to join even without ideas or previous experience. The more of us there are, the more we can achieve together. Knowing Finnish is not mandatory. Please do get in touch: mll.tikkurila@gmail.com
Tikkurila Family café
The Family Café is an open and free meeting place for families with young children, where parents can share experiences and connect with others in similar life situations. It also gives children the chance to play and make new friends. Family Cafés are aimed at parents with babies, toddlers or preschool children.
They are mainly run by volunteers. Organised activities are rare, and most of the time is reserved for free play. We meet for a few hours on weekday evenings or Saturday mornings at the Ukko-Pekka community venue. MLL Tikkurila provides small snacks to enjoy with coffee. Check the Tapahtumat (Events) section for upcoming Family Café dates. You are warmly welcome to join us! No pre-registration needed.
In spring 2025, we held Family Cafés every other Wednesday and Saturday at the Ukko-Pekka community venue (Aniskuja 3, 01300 Vantaa) a record total of 19 times, reaching just under 400 visitors during the season. A big thank you to our amazing volunteers, who made it possible to host so many Family Cafés, and to our visitors for the wonderful gatherings!
