Great to see that you found our website. Welcome!
Who we are: We are a local association under the Mannerheim League for Child Welfare (MLL). The local MLL Tikkurila Association was founded on September 20, 1943. Our area of activity includes Tikkurila, Simonkylä, Ilola, and Hiekkaharju. Tikkurila association's operations are based on the values, principles of operation, and the guidelines defined at the general meeting of the Mannerheim League for Child Welfare (MLL). You can read more about MLL and the child protection policy in English here About MLL - The Mannerheim League for Child Welfare
What we do: Our goal is to promote the well-being of children, youth, and families with children in our area, in ways chosen by our members. Our activities are guided by the rules approved by the MLL central organization. In accordance with these rules, the association creates, plans, and implements activities that support the basic safety, well-being, and healthy development of children, youth, and families. Currently, our core activities include the popular family cafés. We also organize other events in our area, as opportunities allow.
How: Our activities are purely and only based on voluntaty work.
The board
The activities of the MLL Tikkurila are coordinated by the board, which in 2025 consists of four members. In addition, we have active volunteers involved in our family café activities. The association is led by our long-time chairperson, Tuuli Rytkönen (phone: 045-6752256).
The board meets about four times a year, two of which are statutory meetings: the spring and autumn meetings. In these meetings, we address the statutory matters but also brainstorm and, when possible, implement activities that benefit children, youth, and families in our area. The statutory spring and autumn meetings are open to everyone, and members of the association have voting rights at these meetings.
Are you interested in joining the board? Previous experience in board work is not required – the most important qualities are enthusiasm, a desire to make an impact, and a willingness to develop local activities. Feel free to get in touch! The board is elected for a one-year term, and the new board for the 2026 term will be elected at the autumn meeting at the end of 2025. Until then, we encourage you to join our activities, whether as a guest at our events or as a volunteer helping to organize them.
If you would like to bring an issue to the board's attention, you can send us a message via email at mll.tikkurila@gmail.com. We are happy to receive ideas and suggestions!

Summer Picnics 2025
You're warmly welcome to join our relaxed summer picnics in July! The MLL Tikkurila Association is organizing low-threshold family café-style picnics on three Saturdays: July 5th, 12th, and 26th, from 10 am to 12 pm. We’ll gather in the yard of Lauhatie Daycare (Lauhatie 19, Vantaa).
We may also organize a picnic on July 19th, if we find a few more volunteers – we’ll keep you posted!
Come play, meet other families, and enjoy a relaxed Saturday morning together. Feel free to bring your own snacks, a blanket, and a cheerful spirit. There will be a few tables and benches available in the yard. We're also looking into the possibility of offering some light refreshments on-site.
See you at the picnic!
Nature Trail Game
MLL Tikkurila and the Finnish Association for Nature Conservation (SLL) Vantaa are launching a Nature Trail Game for July 2025!
Pick up your Nature Trail Game sheet from the children’s section at Tikkurila Library and start exploring! There are two versions of the game sheet: one for children under 10 and another for ages 10 and up. You don’t need to register or prepare in advance — just grab a sheet and start whenever it suits you.
Remember to return your completed game sheet to the Tikkurila Library during July to receive a small prize. Will you be able to complete all the tasks?
We wish you lots of fun with the game!

Tikkurila Family café
MLL Tikkurila Association hosted family cafés every other Wednesday and Saturday during the spring of 2025. These cafés were open to all parents and young children. We offered coffee, tea, and light snacks, and visitors were welcome to bring their own food as well. A microwave, refrigerator, and children’s dishes were available for use.
The family cafés were held a record 19 times at the open community space Ukko-Pekka (Aniskuja 3, 01300 Vantaa), and we welcomed just under 400 visitors over the season. A heartfelt thank you goes to our amazing volunteers who made it possible to organize so many cafés — and to all our visitors for the warm and joyful moments we shared together!
The family cafés are now on a summer break. We hope to start again in the autumn, provided we have enough volunteers. Would you be interested in joining us? We’d love to hear from you — feel free to contact us at mll.tikkurila@gmail.com.
